A CARTOON FROM THE PR DEPARTMENT

My friend Larry Zwisohn has come up with another gem. About the only thing correct in this cartoon of Dad (Roy Rogers) and Trigger is the spelling of their names and the fact that he worked in a shoe factory!

The cartoon says that Dad’s ambition as a young man was to be a minister — wrong!

It also says that someone at the shoe factory heard him sing and got him an audition on the radio — wrong! It wasn’t until he moved to California and

his sister got him to go on stage at a midnight talent show that was broadcast in L.A. Someone heard  him on that show and asked him to join a group (the Rocky Mountaineers) and they got a spot on the radio.

Fake news even back then? The guy must have gone on to work for CNN. 🙂

“Back in the day” in my recollection celebrities were a wonder and mystery. Stories about their lives and background may have been airbrushed and fantasy. I wonder how many of my generation thought about becoming a doctor or would sing at work or whatever. Our imaginations and daydreams of our heroes was wide open and wonderful. Maybe we just enjoyed these kinds of things, real or not. My dad played Santa Claus for us kids, all dressed up. It wasn’t real but it sure was exciting and at the time real to me. Thanks so much for posting such interesting things Cheryl.

CR…..Days of old! !! I would ride an old tobacco stick all day long thinking I’m RR. shooting my cap gun!

    1. What great memories to have. My children have some of the same memories I have but they were patterned after the reruns of the TV series.
