Mom and Dad were really happy when my brother Sandy was sent to Germany instead of Vietnam. They thought he would be out of harm’s way if he wasn’t where the battles were being fought. Sandy died on a dare when he was 19. I’m sure he didn’t think that what he was doing was dangerous. He was just having a couple of drinks to celebrate his promotion. Until someone dared him to have a few more. That dare cost him his life as he had been abused when just a few weeks old and those old wounds caused a weakness that, coupled with the booze, took his life.
After Sandy’s death, Mom and Dad traveled to Vietnam to entertainment our troops.
