Roy Rogers the Show-Off

My Dad just couldn’t resist showing off some times. Of course, he was a great athlete and was very capable of doing some great stunts — even though the studio (actually, its insurance company) wouldn’t let him do his own stunts in his films.

My good friend, Larry Z. sent me this shot of Dad showing off to me (I was about 3) by the pool at our first Encino home.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!!!  Cheryl

I don’t know what’s better here, the flawless handstand or the game of peekaboo!!

  1. Cheryl, that is an amazing picture. I agree with Pie’s comment. The whole thing is flawless and beautiful.

Loved your parents. As a little girl of 5 I use to dream of them adopting me. I came from a very cold, distant family. You were such a lucky girl, I’m glad you got to experience these wonderful people as your parents. My brother commented one day, ” have you ever noticed how much your husband resembles Roy Rogers”. I’d really never thought about it until then. I looked at him and went WOW, no wonder I was immediately attracted to him. He was the love of my life, and miss him every day since his passing 13 years ago.

I have loved your mom and dad since I was a little girl. I suppose that I love them now more than ever; and, I have a deep abiding respect for them–for their faithful practice of their Christian faith and their strong family values. I am constantly watching their movies, my favorites being those with Roy, Dale, Gabby, and the Sons of the Pioneers. Of course, I love them all. How I wish that our children of today had heroes like Roy and Dale–and others. I really miss them being here with us. However, I know that they are praising our Savior with their beautiful harmony.

Being 71 now & retired, I’m catching up on my favourite old movies.
    Really enjoying watching Roy’s movies.
I remember Saturday Matinee’s where in the 50’s & 60’s, the theatre would have a double feature of Roy’s films.
A few times, they even had a triple feature.
Have many of the movies been remastered???

    1. Hi Doug, glad you like the old movies. I know that several of Dad’s films have been remastered but I don’t know how many there are. Cheryl
