Roy Rogers – Dale Evans Canteen

Hi, just received a message from John S. O’Connell where he reminisced about the Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Canteen across the street from Memphis, TN during WWII.  He said the Roy/Dale Canteen and the other USO canteens around the country were his favorite places during the war.

I don’t remember Mom and/or Dad ever talking about having a canteen named after them but I do know that they both did a lot of work for the USO during WWII.  Dad was one of the top War Bond sellers, and he and Mom performed all over the country for our servicemen and women.  In fact, Mom and Dad met when they participated at a Bond Drive show at Edwards Air Force Base in Lancaster, CA.

Thanks, John, for sharing your story.
